The best way to get customers and prospects to your site is to put your Web site address — also called a URL — everywhere. When someone sees your marketing literature, your URL should be apparent. Here are some traditional marketing vehicles that can now include your URL:
Business cards
Letterhead
Brochures
Ads
Flyers
Print newsletters
Signage
Receipts
Catalogs
Anything you print with your business information
Campaigns to Drive Web Traffic
Launching your Web site is a great excuse to contact your customers and anyone else in your database. Invite them to visit your new site. If you have an e-commerce site, feature and promote a special offer available for a limited time to motivate visits.
A direct mail campaign announcing the launch of your site (and promoting any limited-time offer) is a great way to acclimate your customers to your Web presence and e-marketing tactics. Because direct mail can get expensive, look at the benefits and challenges of each:
Letter: A letter can allow you to be personal, particularly if you create a mail merge so that each letter is addressed to the recipient, such as Dear
decreases the likelihood it being read.
Add a teaser message to the outside of the envelope to entice the recipient to open it, such as “Find out how we’re serving you better,” “Check inside for exciting news,” or “Special limited-time offer inside.”
Postcard: A postcard is a great way to introduce your Web site because it provides you with the flexibility to select a style that suits your message and your budget. For example, you can add color to grab attention or select an unusually large size so that your note stands out from the rest of the mail. Both of these options increase your costs but will also increase your chance of having your message read. Even if you go with black and white and stick with a standard size, your postcard is still more likely than a letter to get read — your message is right there
for recipients to see!
One downside of a postcard is the relatively limited space in which to provide information. But now that you have a Web site, you can use the postcard to entice people to visit your site where they can find all the information you want to share.
Mailer: A mailer is more elaborate than a letter or a postcard. It often includes an envelope; however, because it features color and perhaps unusual dimensions, it’s more likely to stand out from the rest of the mail and get opened. There are virtually unlimited approaches to creating a mailer. Consider, though, that the more elaborate the design, the higher the costs and the more time it takes to develop and print the piece.
