1. Start collecting your customers’ contact details and information now.
You can use a guestbook, enter names into your mobile phone, collect business cards, or begin an Excel spreadsheet. Write down each customer’s name, mobile phone number, email, birthday, anniversary and other information useful to your business.
HINT: Having a monthly prize draw is an easy and effective way to collect customer contact information.
Customers enter by dropping their business cards or contact details on a slip of paper into a bowl on the counter.
2. Record notes about what brings different types of customers back into your business.
Who only comes in when there is a sale? Who likes to come in because you have new inventory? Who likes coupons?
3. Group your customer contacts by preference for similar offers.
As you record customer details, start to think about how you’d group customers that might like similar offers.
Since customers like receiving offers dedicated to them, group customers with similar interests together!
4. Think about your business goals: what would help you increase sales and grow your business?
Write down what makes your business most successful. Is it building relationships with your customers to create loyalty?
Is it increasing orders from your existing customers? Is it getting new customers?
5. Brainstorm targeted offers that you could send to your customers to achieve these business goals.
Customers are more likely to come into your store if they receive relevant and targeted offers. Think strategically about what groups of customers like which kinds of offers and when these offers might be most relevant. For example, you might consider promoting a complementary product to customers who have just bought from you.
6. Do some competitive research so you know how your competitors connect with customers.
What types of offers and communications are your local competitors using with their customers? Start with an online search of your competitors; you’ll be surprised what you can learn. And don’t forget to sign up for competitor newsletters or email groups.
7. Send a targeted, personalized text offer to a group of customers.
Let your sale-loving customers know when you have a seasonal sale. Tell moms about back-to-school discounts. Tell your loyal customers about a new loyalty card that gives them every 10th purchase for free.
8. Start sending an offer to your customers on their birthdays or special days.
For birthdays, you might offer an exclusive discount valid for the month of the customer’s birthday. It reminds customers that you are their favorite supplier and that you are thinking of them.
9. Track results.
You want to know who actually takes advantage of your offers and if you have you achieved your business goals. Take note of responses you get to texts and keep a tally of which of your customers actually buy because of the offer. When they use your offer, ask your customers what they liked about it so you know what works!
10. Adjust your offer based on results and send an even more targeted offer next time.
Based on which customers actually use your offer, consider adjusting your group list before you send your next offer.
Also, consider how you can make your offer more attractive to customers and tweak your offers!
That’s it, my beloved readers. I’m hoping that you can effectively use these tips in your mobile marketing communications and become successful in your mobile marketing campaigns.
