Organic Gardening Seminar Schedule in Horticulture 2010

The annual garden show of the Philippine Horticultural Society will be held on January 29 to February 8. There will be daily lectures and seminars, national competition for best landscape exhibit, best plant in show, etc. and endless photo opportunities garden enthusiasts, plant lover, collector of plants from all over the Philippines and the world. There will also be educational tours from different schools and universities from across the country.

Horticulture2010 150x150 Organic Gardening Seminar Schedule in Horticulture 2010Ideas in organic gardening and how to survive under climate change will be among the top topics in the daily lectures. The lectures will be held at the Greenhouse No. 2 of the Manila Seedling Bank at the corner of EDSA and Quezon Avenue in Quezon City, according to Wendy Regalado, PHS president.

What to expect from the show?
Expect to see bonsai on display, rare cactus and succulent collections, natural stones and suiseiki, orchids, ornamental plants, ferns , native trees, landscaping , flowering annuals and perennials, cycads, palms, plant competition.

January 30, 2010 (Saturday)
10 a.m. — Tony de Castro will lecture on vermiculture for organic gardening
2 p.m., — Pearl Banaag, president of World Flower Council, will demonstrate avant garde floral arrangement.

On January 31, 2010 (Sunday)
10 a.m. — Carlos V. Lazaro, president of Philippine Orchid Society, will discuss orchid growing for business or hobby.
2:00 p.m. — Serapion S. Metilla will show Ikebana arrangements of both classical and free style for pleasure and profit.

February 1, 2010 (Monday)
10 a.m — Fernando Aurigue will talk on Doña Aurora and other Mussaendas. It is believed that Mussaenda should be the Philippine national flower instead of sampaguita which is a native of India.
2:00 p.m. — Hoyas by Ms. Teresa Baldonado

February 2, 2010 (Tuesday)
10 a.m — Urban gardening of vegetables, herbs and ornamentals will be demonstrated by David Balilla on.
2 p.m. — Modesto Manglicmot Jr. will talk on growing native ferns, their propagation and culture.

February 3, 2010 (Wednesday)
10 a.m. — Dan Parilla will talk on Reishi, the ancient secret of traditional medicine.
2:00 p.m. — Native Trees (Philippine Native Trees for Landscaping) by Mr. Patrick Gozon.

February 4, 2010 (Thursday)
10 a.m. — Nonie Dolera will talk on various weeds that can be used for cooking at.
2:00 p.m. — Aquatic Gardening by Mr. Nestor Gregorio

February 5, 2010 (Friday)
10 a.m. — Lourdes Tibig of Ateneo’s Manila Observatory will discuss climate change.
2 p.m. — Anthony Arbias will show and tell the importance of identifying our native Philippine plants.

February 6, 2010 (Saturday)
10 a.m. — Jorge Sahagun will show basic gardening made easy
2 p.m. — Vangie Go will show how to hybridize both flowering and foliage anthuriums

February 7, 2010 (Sunday)
10 a.m. — Agriculture Editor Zac B. Sarian will talk on money-making opportunities in farming and gardening.
2:00 p.m. — Saikei (Bonsai in Tree Landscape) and Stone Appreciation by Mrs. Fely Gupit

February 8, 2010, (Monday)
Philip Choo will demonstrate the practical way of water-wise irrigation for the conservation of both plants and water.

Note: There will be minimal entrance fee. Entrance fee of P10.00 for students and senior citizens with valid ID’s, P20.00 for general public.
