East-West Seed Company Horticultural Training Service Guidelines -- East-West Seed Company is not only providing high quality hybrid seeds but also providing horticultural trainings for Filipino farmers/entrepreneurs wanting to become successful in high-value vegetable farming.

Training Service Schemes:
1. Center-based Training – conducted regularly at the head office of East-West Seed Company-Philippines
2. Onsite Training – conducted in different locations in the country

Center-Based Training
General course:
1. Off-season Vegetable Production

Specialized course: (Development in progress for 2010 offering)
1. Building healthy and productive soils for vegetable production
2. Growing vegetable seedlings
3. Integrated pests management for year-round vegetable production

Crop specific course: (Development in progress for 2010 offering)
1. How to grow tomato
2. How to grow eggplant
3. How to grow pepper
4. How to grow watermelon
5. How to grow ampalaya
6. How to grow onion
7. How to grow squash
8. How to grow sweet corn or white corn

Course Modules
Module 1: Reviewing the physiological processes of plants such as photosynthesis, respiration & transpiration
Module 2: Learning the different factors affecting growth and development of plant during off-season planting
Module 3: Choosing what vegetables to plant
Module 4: Planting and cultivating vegetables
Module 5: Maintaining vegetables in the field
Module 6: Managing soil fertility, productivity and fertilizers
Module 7: Managing water and soil moisture
Module 8: Managing and controlling vegetable pests
Module 9: Harvesting, post-harvest handling & marketing of vegetables
Module 10: Basic Planning & Record Keeping

Vegetables Covered:
Cucurbitaceae Family: ampalaya, upo, cucumber, patola, muskmelon, squash, watermelon
Solanaceae Family: eggplant, hot pepper, sweet pepper, tomato

Requirements for Admission:
1. Open to all individuals who want to learn the basics of vegetable farming
2. Filled up registration form
3. Reservation fee 50% at least 7 working days prior to the scheduled training

Training Fee:
Package 1—P6,500 per participant
Inclusive of full meal, 3 nights accommodation, manual, certificate, seedling tray, seeds, CD, handouts, directory, ballpen, notepad, ID, t-shirt
Package 2 – P5,750 per participant
Exclusive of room accommodation but inclusive of full meal, manual, certificate, seedling tray, seeds, CD, handouts, directory, ballpen, notepad, ID, t-shirt

Registration Procedure:
*The participant shall call or email the Technical Training Specialist (TTS) for slot reservation before paying 50% (P3,000) of the training fee to be sure that the slot is still available.
*Payment centers are the following:

*Fax the deposit slip at (044) 766-1005 with your full name and indicate attention to Connie Adriosula
*If fax machine is unavailable, use cellphone to inform them East-West Seed Co. that the deposit transaction has been done.
*Text at 09063835476 to confirm receipt of deposit slip
*Other payment centers: LBC, ML Lhuiller, Smart Money Padala

B. Onsite Training

Procedure:
1. The customer (NGO/GO) shall fill up training service request form to be submitted to the Technology Transfer Manager for approval
2. Once approved, the Technical Training Specialist (TTS) shall submit Training Proposal to the customer which consists of training program and budget
3. If proposal is accepted by the customer, TTS shall issue Training Service Agreement
4. Once the customer signed the Training Service Agreement, conduct of the training follows on the agreed schedule
Payment:
1. Training fee varies from place to place
2. 15-50% down payment is required at least 10 working days prior to schedule
3. Full payment shall be made on the last day of the training
